Plug-in: Me & U - Cassie With National Day over (yes, happy N'Day fellow Singaporeans), the signal for the beginning of really intense studying has started for those in the O Level stream. Still, some time has to be taken off for relaxation or an appointment at the nearest hospital would be imminent. After tuesday's routine celebrations at school, I chilled out for a while at javier's house before heading for orchard to meet esther, joel and charisse for lunch. Decided to eat at pepper lunch in taka's basement. Being my first experience there, the food was relatively okay although the beef tasted a bit uncooked at times... Loaded up with some dessert later at the basement's food hall. The cream puffs at beard papa were going at really low prices, so it was definitely an opportunity not to be missed. Spent the national day holiday itself at home mostly, but took time off in the night to watch the fireworks at kallang with family, followed by supper thereafter. Not much to do today either, just a lot of revision I guess... A bit of update on the scene, there's a lot of brand-new material coming up from the music industry. Artistes releasing their albums and hence, hopefully successful (they would wish) singles this fall are: Justin Timberlake with Future Sex/Love Sounds containing funky new beats like SexyBack. Pop diva Christina Aguilera's throwback to the 20's in the form of Back to Basics and the loud, catchy number Ain't No Other Man. The not-really-worth-mentioning Paris Hilton with her self-titled attempt at breaking into the scene, Paris, and what she claims to be the song of the summer, Stars Are Blind. Post-divorce Jessica Simpson's A Public Affair and the similarly-titled single. Fergie's breakoff from the Black Eyed Peas, The Duchess, and the utterly surprising #1 Billboard hit London Bridge. John Mayer's next effort at the Grammys with Continuum and new single, Waiting on the World to Change. Beyonce's sophomore release B'Day, teaming up with beau Jay-Z on Deja Vu. And amongst others, upstarts such as NY model Cassie and new girl group Danity Kane's self-titled debuts and Janet Jackson's comeback 20 Years Old. Fans of rock music can wait for Jet's Shine On, The Killers Sam Town, Evanescence's The Open Door, Incubus's Light Grenades, My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade and a soundtrack from Tenacious D for their upcoming film The Pick of Destiny. UK music lovers will have their fair share of tunes. Artistes coming up with new EPs are Kasabian (Empire), Elton John (The Captain and the Kid), Scissor Sisters (Ta-Dah), Decemberists (The Crane Wife), Modest Mouse (We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank) and currently untitled releases from Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Of course these are just the more popular and credible few. So, with at least 3/4 of the music industry rolling out new stuff, you can expect the airwaves to be kept busy for the upcoming year or so. Plug-in: Deja Vu - Beyonce feat. Jay-Z Friday was one of the most lazy school days ever in the history of lazy school days. There were absolutely no lessons at all and practically half the class wasn't present. Actually, I could have stayed at home too if it were not for our ss teacher ms Ho-Toh and her test, which was the sole reason for me to make it to school that day. Without any prior notice, the test was ditched at the last minute, making the rest of the day worthless since all the other teachers were either mysteriously posted to haven at the last minute or pre-emptively announced their disappearance for that day. Anyway, I still left for the school's cross-country run at macritchie later in the day with changming. I was put on the competitive list by ms neo and richie but due to some admin problems, I left the starting point almost a minute after everyone else. Less than midway through the jungle portion of the run, I had the misfortune to run into a bunch of umm... territorial? monkeys which chased me until the next checkpoint where yet again, it was just my luck to trip over a root, landing me with a sprained ankle. The whole thing kind of really freaked me out for a moment there. It's just like some very surreal sci-fi creature horror movie experience. Who ever knew that monkeys could turn aggressive and violent in Singapore? I guess it must have been some new reforms where they raised the taxes on importing bananas. As a result, I did finish quite far behind although surprisingly enough, still ahead of some sec 4's and even sec 3's. It was quite a disappointing finish for me considering the house medals I managed to get in sec 1 and 2. But on closer consideration, tkk performed quite miserably this year so there was no way of getting anything even if I finished close to the top ten. Oh yeah and a big thanks to all those who showed their concern... teachers, classmates and people from other classes. Thankfully, the sprained ankle's okay after some ice treatment. Walking around is fine, it's just that I can't do anything beyond that - like running for example. Went home early but I was able to move around by the time it was late evening. Ended the day by having dinner at fish&co @wheelock with javier. Humor is always based on a modicum of truth. Have you ever heard a joke about a father-in-law? |
